Children who cannot read proficiently by the fourth grade are four times less likely to graduate on time—hindering their chances to succeed in college, career, and in life.
And here’s an alarming statistic… In Washington, 8 out of 10 fourth graders from low income families cannot read at grade level.
If we don’t fix this, we are in trouble, Washington…
The good news is that there is an organization that is working hard to boost reading levels in school. We’re talking about èßäAV.
èßäAV is a national nonprofit literacy organization that recruits and trains community volunteers to provide one-on-one reading tutoring to students in under-resourced schools across the country.
To talk about èßäAV, we recently invited Afi Tengue, Executive Director for èßäAV, and Cassy Charyn, their Program Director.
